            beers of alpharetta

For years, wine lovers have had access to hundreds of vineyards, tasting tours, and destinations the world over to sip, explore, indulge, and discuss vino of every variety. Recently, however, a newer take on sip-scaping featuring hops, yeast, and malts has made its way into the forefront of the travel industry. In fact, a 2019 study indicated that seven in ten Americans have traveled to a destination specifically to sample the regional booze, and that same survey determined that a whopping 72% of beer drinkers have gladly spent vacation time hitting up local breweries.

That’s right—beercations are big, baby—and Alpharetta is right on trend with the sudsy magic of a cold one (or two or three…). Check out these legit local brew hubs to see why we’re quickly becoming the ultimate beercation destination:

            1.

Alpharetta’s flagship brewery on Marconi Drive is the right call to begin your brew adventure. The brewery draws inspiration and its namesake from the Deep South’s very first brewery, which was founded on nearby Jekyll Island in 1738. Today, Jekyll Brewing epitomizes the notion of a deeply local watering hole with memorable Georgia-centric names like Cooter Brown and Hop Dang Diggity. In fact, Jekyll brews have proven to be so sought-after, there’s now a second location in Downtown Alpharetta so you can experience the best of these beers in two different ways. The brewery’s second location offers a rooftop patio three stories above Academy and Market Streets in the heart of Downtown for elevated sipping and features a host of dishes like Nashville hot chicken and housemade pork rinds to serve as a strong base for all your imbibing.

            2.

Another Downtown Alpharetta gem, Currahee Brewing 北京体彩网官方网站 was born out of a true love of good beer and made for those who appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry involved in the brewing process. The South Main Street staple has tons of beers to choose from—but we’re especially big fans of the Boogalo, a dark, flavor-packed Imperial Stout that boasts a whopping 12.4% ABV, and the Peachweizen, a traditional German Hefeweizen kissed by none other than the sweetness of Georgia peaches to create a completely memorable, deeply local thirst-quencher you’ll dream about for days to come.

            3.

The international beer game is STRONG at Barleygarden. The Avalon eatery is known for their epic open-air rooftop bar, ridiculously delicious soft-baked pretzels, and a next-level list of brews from funky and fruity to hop-heavy and full-bodied with just about every style in between. The tap menu rotates regularly, but if you can, be sure to get after BrewDog’s Elvis Juice, a zesty zenith of an IPA featuring enough pithy grapefruit vibes to make your hips swing like the King, and the Dachs Octopi Premium Lager, an easy-drinker with a crisp, clean finish.

            4.

Downtown Alpharetta’s Butcher & Brew is a chic gastropub proud to play host to eclectic craft beers sourced from breweries all over the United States, with a special emphasis on supplying Georgia-made suds (look for the asterisk on their beer menu!). Don’t miss Pontoon Brewery’s Witching Hour, a craveworthy Belgian-style Tripel with bubble gum, banana, and pear fruit esters brewed just down the road in Sandy Springs. And if you fancy yourself a hop head, order a glass of the Scofflaw Brewing Co.’s We Stay Humble, a 5.8% ABV hazy IPA brewed specifically for Butcher & Brew.

Is there any pairing more American than beer and barbecue? Loyal Q and Brew does this U.S. classic combination all kinds of justice with an incredible menu of slow-smoked ‘que and a rotating tap list to accompany the meat party. Order up a slab of ribs or a brisket platter and treat yourself to SweetWater Brewing 北京体彩网官方网站’s 420 Strain Mango Kush Wheat Ale filled to the brim with herbal, juicy mango notes plus a distinctive, dank nose. Looking for something a little more classic? Try the Ex-Pat Lager from Gate City Brewing, a slightly sweet Munich Dunkel straight from Roswell, Georgia.
